Free Yourself from Madden and 2K!!!!

Remember midnight releases for Madden? Remember college football games? Remember having fun playing 2K? I wanna say that getting older hasn’t adjusted my love for sports games. I truly love them. I’m sure a lot of others loved em as well. But now? They are all just so awful, or don’t exist #BringBackNCAAFootball #PayThePlayers. But this won’t about numbers or nothing, cause I’m sure EA and 2K bring in hella money and that’ll more than likely never change (it still could though), but this is more about how awful they’ve made video games.

I want to preface this by saying that the only sports game I play now is FIFA. Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs have me hooked, and even as bad as EA is with microtransactions, the inability to literally do nothing to change Pro Clubs, and the pushing of Volta that is just meh, FIFA has created a fun game that actually improved in my opinion from 20 to 21. But 2K and Madden. Oh boy. The last time I bought each game at full price was Madden 17 and 2K18. Madden has and still continues to be full of bullshit. Every single year, you could go on Twitter and find a multitude of issues. I mean, people even rated Madden as the worst game of all time on Metacritic. And as much as people continue to hate on the game, there is literally nothing EA has to do to fix or improve the game because people will keep buying it! I only play the game after it releases on EA Play (I know, I’m sorry but the other games, like the greatest game of all-time, Skate 3, still remain on there) but every single time that I play someone online, some outlandish bullshit occurs. Like I know football is a crazy sport but I just want to play a football game where a defensive lineman does not run stride for stride with a WR. Like please. Make it realistic. Or the NFL does need to end the EA exclusivity and bring back the brand of the best game of my childhood, NFL 2K5.

Actually, do we want a 2K football game? NBA 2K is arguably another game that alienates buyers so much yet continues to get those same people to buy the game. We need a term for that. Smoker’s dilemma? Is that a thing? Actively participating in something you know isn’t good for you? Yep, Smoker’s Dilemma = buying 2K and Madden every year. Smoker’s Dilemma = buying cigarettes. Either way, 2K has had so many issues over the years, I feel awful for Ronnie 2K. The man is just the Director of Digital Marketing but every single issue that occurs in the game, @Ronnie2K will be mentioned in a tweet. I legit feel bad, cause really most people are idiotic enough to think Ronnie 2K actually develops the game himself when the man is just in charge of getting the game more popular. But man, the 2K servers? Garbage. 2K MyCareer storyline? Garbage. Online head-to-head? Garbage. Ain’t no reason in hell that I should use the Bulls (all love to my boys) and be playing the historical roster of the Lakers. Although Lauri and Wendell might be a top 2 front court in the NBA, I have my doubts that they can take Shaq and Kareem. It’d be close, but I have to give the edge to 2 of the best players of all time. And while I have only played 2K19 and 2K20 when it was discounted for $3 and free and neither game lasted 3 days on my console. Literally just awful. Even Kevin Durant has issues with the game. We need an overhaul, and while I’m not a video game developer, I have some ideas.

So actually, I just have 2 ideas lol but hear me out!

1. Get rid of the league monopolies. Yes, EA did not know what to do with NBA Live but man, there was at least something that kept 2K on their toes. Now? They can do jack shit and when people wanna play basketball cause we’re in a pandemic and social distancing, they have no choice but to play a video game that is universally hated and now has unskippable ads in the game!! The sickness!! This greedy organization needs to know the wrath! Madden kind of echoes this same sentiment although with no ads, there seems to be nothing of note that has changed within the game. Literally, it feels like the entire game is just a copy and paste. I shouldn’t speak on Madden 21 too much due to me only playing 2 games but damn, it just feels like the same game with Nick Foles as my team’s QB instead of 10. So really, the monopoly effect does rely on the professional leagues changing up but I’m sure that money hitting nice so I think that just leaves one other option…
2. STOP BUYING THE GAMES!!! Or at least stop buying into the microtransactions. Like just don’t spend any extra money. Obviously not everyone is going to just quit playing the game, like Madden release day is akin to spending time with your family every Thanksgiving and slowly realizing that you’re entire family is absolutely sick but it’s too late to get out of visiting but I want to let you know that there is a way out. There’s alternatives. I know not everyone is a soccer fan but there’s FIFA and Football Manager on desktop. MLB the Show for my PlayStation guys, be happy you have that. It sucks that you may have to give up on old reliable, but maybe that a year away will turn to more years away and then one year, you’ll get that message that everyone’s changed for the better. Or that everyone’s on their deathbed. One of em will eventually occur.

But if you do continue to play Madden and 2K, I will say that you are putting your own health at risk. Or you’re in the minority that actually enjoys the game and with that being said, do you want my extra coleslaw from Cane’s?
